Report on milfoil- 2009 to present- I would like to thank John Nick, Rich McCrum, Don Martin and Jeff Deitrick for the diving hours they put in and Dawn Freligh, JoAnne Nick, Noelle McCrum, Sue Martin, Ann and John Colberg and for the hours spent as top water and safety assistants and Roxy Greismer and Cindy Saunders for scouting. If I have left out anyone through poor memory or bad record keeping, I sincerely apologize- all efforts are deeply and sincerely appreciated. As you can see the Milfoil harvest has gone UP not down over the past four years and I do not venture to say that it is because of better harvesting- rather the beds of milfoil are spreading. The Town of Chester has contracted to have a Company come in and address the lake as a whole, not the piecemeal approach we have had- that has not been working. It is my hope that the volunteers can come in after the pros go through and keep a maintenance program in place. The professional service is looking at coming through once per year for four to six years. The contract for this service is roughly $65,000.00 per year, four times what the last contract was for- but this is to do the entire lake bottom. It just seems that the money we have been spending has not had any real benefit- the problem has gotten worse. By addressing the whole lake it is thought the milfoil will get under control and we can put a maintenance plan in place and have this issue going the right way (less milfoil) instead of the wrong way (more milfoil).
